My name is Alohi Van Loon, owner and inspector at Big Island Home Inspections. I’ve been a licensed home inspector for over seven years and bring more than 20 years of hands-on experience in the trades, including electrical, plumbing, framing, roofing, HVAC, remodeling, and more. That real-world experience allows me to deliver detailed, objective evaluations so you fully understand what you’re investing in.

Based out of Keaau, I provide inspections nearby in Hilo and Puna and am happy to provide inspections in Kona or anywhere on the island with a small travel fee for any location further than 50 miles from Keaau.

Each report provides a clear, comprehensive understanding of the property’s condition, complete with photo and video documentation. For homes with water catchment systems, every inspection includes interior tank video footage so you can see exactly what’s inside.

Experience as an inspector and a builder
My experience in the trades started early - sweating my first copper fitting at seven years old under the guidance of my father, a master plumber.
From that foundation, I built decades of hands-on experience across nearly every major trade: remodeling, rewiring, repiping, roofing, foundations, framing, HVAC, tile work, drywall, and more.
After establishing myself as a contractor, I was personally sought out and extensively trained by Alex Valenzuela, one of the most requested high-end home inspectors in Santa Fe, New Mexico - a true master of the craft.
I bring a lifetime of real-world building knowledge to every inspection. That depth of experience allows me to evaluate homes not just as an inspector - but as someone who understands how they are truly built.
